The Problem

The Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme is a European Directive introduced in 2014 and is mandatory for large UK organisations. We were approached to assist a motor vehicle dealer with a portfolio of sites across the UK to help them achieve ESOS compliance before the nationwide deadline. The company operates 14 garages across Kent and London. This ESOS assessment involved carrying out energy site surveys at a sample of the companies sites, as well as energy consumption analysis of the businesses utilities usages including, electric, gas and any associated transport.

The solution

Efficiency Direct appointed a dedicated ESOS Lead Assessor who project managed the ESOS compliance from start to finish. We appointed a qualified Lead Assessor to attend 5 of the garages located in Bromley, Welling, Dartford, Sidcup and Farningham, Kent to carry out in-depth energy survey. Energy consumption analysis was carried out to assess the energy usage of the business and an ESOS report containing energy saving initiatives and recommendations was delivered to the client. The ESOS report identified 4 common energy saving initiatives and 9 specific site energy saving initiatives with a total estimated potential savings of 1,218,998kWh (£95,007) and an average payback of 1.2 years.

The outcome

The company achieved ESOS Phase 1 compliance by the deadline and lodged their compliance with the Environment Agency. Since then the company has decided to investigate implementing the energy saving recommendations.
